Reflection, Self-Assessment and Improvement
Dear Brothers and Sisters
The foundation of every state is the education of its youth. The great aim of education is not knowledge but action. The purpose of education is to replace an empty mind with an open one. Only the educated are free. Prophet Isa (AS) said “seek the truth and truth shall free you”.
A well-informed mind is the best security against the contagion of folly and of vice. The vacant mind is ever on the watch for relief, and ready to plunge into error, to escape from the languor of idleness. An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It's being able to differentiate between what you do know and what you don't. It is possible to store the mind with a million facts and still be entirely uneducated.
The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You don't blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the President. You realize that you control your own destiny. The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think - rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with thoughts of other men.
An educational system isn't worth a great deal if it teaches young people how to make a living but doesn't teach them how to make a life. Nations have recently been led to borrow billions for war; no nation has ever borrowed largely for education. Probably, no nation is rich enough to pay for both war and civilization.
We must make our choice; we cannot have both. Education is a better safeguard of liberty than a standing army. Iqbal’s idea of education was to unsettle the minds of the young and inflame their intellects. Why should society feel responsible only for the education of children, and not for the education of all adults of every age? We need to re-educate ourselves our parents and elders who are ignorant of the true teachings of the Holy Quran.
All the prophets of Allah mainly did two jobs spiritual revival of the people and establishing social justice.IN THE TIME OF DECEPTION TELLING THE TRUTH IS A REVOLUTIONARY ACT. Remember my fellow students leadership and revolution is the lifting of people’s vision to a higher sight, the raising of their performance to a higher standard, the building of their personality beyond their normal limitations The leader has to be an educator There is only one Education in Pakistan, and it has only one goal: the freedom of the mind through true Islamic education of the Holy Quran.
Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself. Freedom of speech and freedom of action are meaningless without freedom to think. Above all there is no freedom of thought without understanding the meaning of the Holy Quran in a language you understand.
If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich. Nobody can give you freedom, equality, justice or anything. If you're a man, you take it. It is by the grace of Allah that in our country we have those three precious things: we have Shaheens, we have Khudi and we have the Quran with us. Justice and power must be brought together, so that whatever is just may be powerful, and whatever is powerful may be just.
Peace is not the absence of war but the presence of justice. The foundation of justice is good faith. Allah says in the Quran 4:135 “O YOU who believe! Be ever steadfast in upholding justice, bearing witness to the truth for the sake of God, even though it be against your own selves or your parents and relatives. Whether the person concerned be rich or poor, God's claim takes precedence over [the claims of] either of them. Do not, then, follow your own desires, lest you swerve from justice: for if you distort [the truth], behold, God is indeed aware of all that you do.” Human life on Earth will neither prosper nor enjoy stability unless it is established upon a foundation of justice.
All of the sacred scriptures call people to being just. The crux of Islamic law is the realization of justice. Justice is the most essential of human rights from which all other rights are derived. Only within the context of justice can other human rights be upheld and guaranteed. All other rights are qualified in one way or another. They all have their limits, the frontiers beyond which the exercise of those rights transgresses upon the rights of others. For instance, people do not have unbridled freedom to do whatever they like.
I know change is hard because people overestimate the value of what they have—and underestimate the value of what they may gain by giving that up. There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things." The nature and structure of belief systems is important from the perspective of an informational theorist because beliefs are thought to provide the cognitive foundation of an attitude. In order to change an attitude, then, it is presumably necessary to modify the information on which that attitude rests. It is generally necessary, therefore, to change a person's beliefs, eliminate old beliefs or introduce new beliefs. The greatest danger in times of turbulence is not the turbulence; it is to act with yesterday’s logic.
The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise -- with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country inshaAllah. The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul on fire. When you set yourself on fire, people love to come and see you burn.
One person with passion is better than forty people merely interested. The future may be made up of many factors but where it truly lies is in the hearts and minds of men. Your dedication should not be confined for your own gain, but unleashes your passion for our beloved country as well as for the integrity and humanity of mankind. Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. Courage is doing what you're afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you're scared. You cannot wait for someone or somebody to change things. You are the change you were looking for. You are the change that you seek.
You have great responsibility on your shoulders as each and everyone of you has to become a leader and create leaders. You are the present as well as the future. Let’s not become prisoners of the past. Past is history future is fantasy and present is a gift. Control is not leadership; management is not leadership; leadership is leadership. If you seek to lead, invest at least 50% of your time in leading yourself—your own purpose, ethics, principles, motivation and conduct. Invest at least 20% leading those with authority over you and 15% leading your peers. I would end this with the seven leadership qualities of the Iqbal’s Shaheen.
1. Fearless – An eagle has absolutely no fear of its prey, no matter what the size is
2. Tenacious – An eagle looks for and flies into storms. As storms approaches the eagle spreads its wings and mounts upon the powerful winds, soaring to greater heights.
3. Nurturing - The eagle is known for its ferociousness, yet no member of the bird family is more gentle and attentive to its young. At just the right time, the mother eagle begins to teach her eaglets how to fly. She gathers an eaglet onto her back, and spreading her wings, flies high. Suddenly she swoops out from under the eaglet and allows it to fall. As it falls, it gradually learns what its wings are for until the mother catches it once again. The process is repeated. TEACH AND TRAIN.
4. Eagles Never Eat Dead Meat - You will never see an eagle eating meat that it did not kill.
5. High-flier – Eagles can fly up to an altitude of 10,000 feet, but they are able to swiftly land on the ground. The descending glide of an eagle can be anywhere from up to 320km/hr.
6. Vitality – An eagle is full of life and has the power to endure.
7. Vision – Eagles have a keen vision. Their eyes are specially designed for long distance focus and clarity. They can spot its prey from 50 miles away.
Leadership is ultimately about creating a way for people to make something extraordinary to happen. We face nine strategic challenges which we need to address in Pakistan and we have to do this task within 10 years.
• Challenge 1: Establishing a united Pakistani nation made up of one Pakistani race.
• Challenge 2: Creating a psychologically liberated, secure and developed Pakistani society.
• Challenge 3: Fostering and developing a mature democratic society.
• Challenge 4: Establishing a fully moral and ethical society.
• Challenge 5: Establishing a matured liberal and tolerant society.
• Challenge 6: Establishing a scientific and progressive society.
• Challenge 7: Establishing a fully caring society.
• Challenge 8: Ensuring an economically just society, in which there is a fair and equitable distribution of the wealth of the nation.
• Challenge 9: Establishing a prosperous society with an economy that is fully competitive, dynamic, robust and resilient.
The ideal Islamic society is a Taqwa conscious society.
Allah (SWT) says: “Those who do not rule by what Allah has revealed are disbelievers.” If the blind lead the blind, both shall fall in the ditch. To achieve our goal I propose the 3 R’s formula.
1. Re-educate - Idrak - Self Knowledge
2. Reform - Tameer - Capacity Building
3. Revive - Kamal - Excellence
We have to re-educate ourselves on the last message of ALLAH given to us through our beloved prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Re-educate our families, our parents, our community and our whole country. Through re-education we will see social and judicial reforms which will eventually revive our nation, our economy and our destiny.
